Independent Educational Evaluations (IEEs)
Independent, objective behavioral expertise to help identify a student’s needs and guide effective educational programming.
We provide Independent Educational Evaluations (IEEs) for families and school districts seeking an objective, comprehensive evaluation of a student’s behavioral and functional needs. Evaluations are conducted by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) with experience in special education, autism, behavior assessment, and school-based behavioral consultation.
An IEE may be appropriate when a parent disagrees with an evaluation completed by the school district or when an independent assessment is needed to provide additional information regarding a student’s educational and behavioral needs.
IEE Services May Include
Depending on the referral question and the individual needs of the student, our evaluations may include:
Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs)
Review of existing evaluations, IEPs, behavior plans, progress monitoring, and educational records
Parent, caregiver, teacher, and educational team interviews
Direct observations across relevant educational environments
Identification and operational definition of behaviors of concern
Assessment of environmental variables and potential behavioral functions
Review and analysis of behavioral and educational data
Assessment of replacement skills and areas of functional need
Evaluation of current behavioral supports and interventions
Development of evidence-based behavioral recommendations
Recommendations for Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and positive behavioral supports
Written evaluation reports summarizing findings and recommendations
Participation in IEP or educational team meetings to review and explain evaluation findings, when requested
Functional Behavior Assessment IEEs
A Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) is designed to identify factors that may be contributing to behaviors that interfere with a student's learning, participation, independence, or access to their educational environment.
Rather than focusing only on what the behavior looks like, an FBA examines when, where, and why behavior is occurring. Information may be gathered through record review, interviews, direct observation, data collection, and other appropriate behavioral assessment methods.
The results are used to develop practical, individualized recommendations that emphasize prevention, teaching appropriate replacement skills, environmental supports, and positive behavior intervention strategies.
Independent & Student-Centered
Our role as an independent evaluator is to provide an objective assessment based on available data, direct observations, professional standards, and the individual needs of the student. Recommendations are developed based on evaluation findings rather than the preferences of either the family or school district.
The goal is to provide families and educational teams with meaningful information they can use to make informed decisions regarding behavioral supports, educational programming, and student success.
Who We Work With
We may accept IEE referrals from:
Parents and guardians
Public school districts
Educational agencies
Special education attorneys and advocates
Other professionals involved in a student's educational planning
Evaluations may be considered for students with autism and other developmental, behavioral, communication, or educational needs when the referral question falls within the evaluator's professional scope of competence.
Request an Independent Educational Evaluation
If you are a parent, school district, attorney, or advocate seeking an Independent Educational Evaluation related to behavior, functional skills, or behavioral programming, please contact us to discuss the referral.
We can review the IEE criteria, referral questions, evaluation requirements, timelines, location, and scope of services to determine whether we are an appropriate independent evaluator for the student's needs.
